Bob Heman lives on the west end of Long Island in what was once the City of Brooklyn. 
In 1972 he published and edited the first issue of the often-experimental magazine Clown War (later called clwn wr), which ran for 50 issues, and finally went into hibernation in 2016.
During the late 1970s he was an artist-in-residence at The Brooklyn Museum. His visual art includes collages, ink drawings and, cut-out multiples on paper.
He spent most of his adult life working in libraries and archives. In the early 1980s, while working in the Arents Tobacco Collection at NYPL, he organized and curated an exhibition “Tobacco in 17th Century English Poetry.”
Over the last 60 years his poems and prose poems have appeared in such diverse periodicals as Kayak, Caliban, New American Writing, Hanging Loose, Sentence, The Prose Poem: an International Journal, Quick Fiction, Lost and Found Times, and many others. 
His words were recently anthologized in Dancing about Architecture (MadHat Press), Contemporary Tangential Surrealist Poetry: an anthology (SurVision Books), A Shape Produced by a Curve (great weather for MEDIA),  Contemporary Surrealist and Magic Realist Poetry: An International Anthology (Lamar University Literary Press), and A Cast-Iron Aeroplane That Can Actually Fly: Commentaries from 80 Contemporary American Poets on Their Prose Poetry (MadHat Press).
His most recent books are Washing the Wings of the Angels (Quale Press) and The House of Grand Farewells (Luna Bisonte Prods), and the chapbooks with words (FootHills Publishing), A Sky Obscured by Bicycles (SurVision Books), and Cone Transformed (Poets Wear Prada), as well as The Number 5 is Always Suspect (a collection of 24 collaborations with Cindy Hochman) (Presa Press).
He is divorced with two adult children who live in Brooklyn and an adult grandson who lives in Montana.
