Sam Truitt was born in Washington, DC, and raised there and in Tokyo, Japan. He is the author of the ten books in the Vertical Elegies series, among other works in print and other media. He has received grants and awards from, among others, the Howard Fellowship, the Fund for Poetry, and the University of Georgia.
