Anna Halberstadt writes poetry in English and Russian; she also translates from Russian, Lithuanian, English, Polish and Ukrainian.

Her poetry has been widely published and anthologized in over 80 journals and numerous anthologies in English, Russian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Bengali and other languages. Lately her poetry was included in a number of anti-war anthologies in English, Russian and Ukrainian, such as Dislocation, Artelen, Как нам это пережить, the anthology of the Berlin Poetry Festival 2025, and others.

She has published two collections of poetry in English, Vilnius Diary and Green in a Landscape with Ashes. Anna edited two anthologies of Russian poetry and an anthology of Ukrainian poetry for The Café Review in 2019, 2020 and 2024.

She also published three collections of poetry in Russian and two books of translations from Russian: Vladimir Gandelsman’s and Maria Galina’s poetry  in collaboration with Olga Livshin and Ainsley Morse,  as well as three books of translations from English: Eileen Myles’s and Edward Hirsch’s poetry; also, Aushra Kaziliunaite’s translations from Lithuanian and Adam Zagaewski’s from Polish.  

Her collections of short stories, Classification of Objects, came out from Free Press in 2025.

Anna is a recipient of a number of literary awards, among them Atlanta Review International Merit Award 2016, Translator of the Year award from Persona Plus  for Bob Dylan’s translations,  Poetry 2016  award for her poetry in Russian, and several awards for her poetry in Lithuania.  Her short story “Coney Island” was a finalist in the Brooklyn Art and Film festival non-fiction contest.
